jeffrey_300Concerned with varicose veins, spider veins, chronic venous insufficiency or serious leg ulcers? Tune in to KPNX 12 News Arizona Midday program on Friday, October 4 at 12:30 p.m., PST and hear Dr. Jeffrey Alpern, D.O., give you the lowdown on venous disease. Dr. Alpern will talk about not only the importance of proper diagnosis of vein issues, but also why he feels ultrasound is the best method. If you miss the show, visit the station’s website to watch a video of the interview at

Dr. Alpern states one of the reasons he’s appearing on the program is to get the word out that vein issues, like varicose veins and spider veins could possibly be signals of more serious medical problems.

“Correct diagnosis is the first step in achieving relief for those who suffer from venous disease. I want to let as many individuals know that one fact. The interview on Midday seemed a logical step to reach a lot of those patients,” Dr. Alpern explains adding, “I founded Vein Specialists of Arizona with the hope to make a difference in vein treatment by offering state-of-the-art procedures not readily available.”

Other talking points that will be covered in the Channel 12 News interview are: What symptoms to look for; available treatment and procedures; and a brief explanation on how venous issues are caused.

“I feel that if patients understand a little of the physiology of what causes the problem,” Dr. Alpern states, “it helps with the decision process of their treatment.” Dr. Alpern adds, “Each and every patient at VSA is given an ultrasound scan to determine if any underlying health issues related to their veins exist. That’s important to me.”

Dr. Alpern adds that he’s pleased with the opportunity to share his thoughts on the program.

“It’s exciting that even if you can’t watch me live on the program, the video will be available,” Dr. Alpern mentions. “More and more individuals are getting their news from the internet, so this is a nice feature to the interview.”
